Devil's Memory Challenge

About the game
Platform: PC
Devil’s Memory Challenge is a competitive 2D PC game created for Global Game Jam 2020. Little demons fall to Earth after a great battle and lose their powers, memories and personalities. Now they duel to recover their memories and powers while trying to sabotage each other.
Gameplay
Two players race through stages to collect their lost memories first. Along the way, they face obstacles and use power-ups to hinder the opponent, pushing them away from objectives and creating a fast, competitive back-and-forth.
My role on the project

Game Design: Designed the core competitive mechanics, rules and resources that define how players move, collect memories and interfere with each other.
Level Design: Created stages and obstacles that support the race structure and opportunities for sabotage.
Pixel Art: Produced background and environment assets to reinforce the demonic theme and readability within the jam scope.
Challenges and Solutions
Challenge: Interpret the “What Home Means to You” theme in a non-literal way
What I did: Treated “home” as memories and souvenirs, framing the goal of each run as retrieving lost memories instead of returning to a physical place.
Challenge: Create a clear, fun competitive loop in 48 hours
What I did: Focused on a simple race structure between two players, added obstacles and power-ups that let them slow each other down, and scoped levels to be short but replayable within the jam time.
